GEORGIAN AT MY CHURCH

Spread the Fire, Issue #4 – 2005

“Suddenly there was a sound like the roaring of a mighty windstorm in the skies above them and it filled the house where they were meeting. Then what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on their heads. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit…” Acts 2:2, 3 – Living Bible

If you check The Weather Channel as often as I do, then you are used to the “storm report.” Whether it is a blizzard, flash flood or hurricane, these events unleash violent disturbances on the earth. The sustained winds of a hurricane can cause telephone poles to snap like toothpicks, and roofs to fly off buildings like kites. Consider a wildfire during dry summer months. Even when fire-fighting helicopters drop their load of water over the sea of flames, it looks like a mere drop in the bucket. The fire is out of human control, and efforts to quench it seem hopeless.

God the Father sent His only Son, Jesus, into the world and unleashed a hurricane of power and glory. He destroyed the grip of sin in people’s lives. He also shook whatever could be shaken. He uprooted false piety and wreaked havoc against controlling rulers. Those in the religious establishment were unable to discern the storm advisories given by their own prophets and plotted His murder. But the brutal death of Jesus on the cross backfired as an earthquake shook the temple and ripped the veil from top to bottom. There was a period of silence for three days, but on the third day, He rose from the dead.

In Jesus’ first public address, He opened the book of Isaiah and delivered a profound message, astounding the ears of the Jews who were present. “The Spirit of the Lord [is] upon Me, because He has anointed Me [the Anointed one, the Messiah] to preach the good news (the Gospel) to the poor; He has sent Me to announce release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to send forth as delivered those who are oppressed [who are downtrodden, bruised, crushed and broken down by calamity.]” (Luke 4: 18 Amplified Bible.)Wow! Without wasting any words, Jesus clearly defined the chief object of His divine mission. It was the fulfillment of the prophecy spoken by the prophet Isaiah

Fresh Outpouring in Florida Church
Salvations, Healings, Miracles and Signs & WondersFor the past six weeks, evangelists Georgian and Winnie Banov have held protracted revival meetings at Praise Cathedral Church of God in St. Petersburg, FL. The Church of God, one of the oldest Pentecostal denominations in the US may be in for a fresh touch from the Holy Spirit’s River of blessing. Georgian Banov prophesied over the pastor of the church, Michael Thomas, kneeling at his feet as though he were the prince in the Cinderella story.

georgianbanov.jpg (21481 bytes)I personally didn’t need any revival, I thought.
I was managing just fine. The fact that I was a minister of the Gospel and yet couldn’t do anything to help motivate my spiritually shipwrecked wife was beside the point. After all, I was a man with a calling and a vision, and I wouldn’t let anything slow me down even if our marriage seemed to be falling apart.
