Day 4 - Sofia

Monday was a day off and the group took a day trip south into the Balkan mountains an hours drive from Greece. We visted a monastery (sp?) one of the oldest standing buildings.
(we took lots of pictures but unfortunately are unable to upload any of them this morning.) We are short on time as we are leaving Sofia today for Kazulek (something like that).
Yesterday as we drove home from the mountains we were about 45 min. early for dinner so the group decided we would take the opportunity to tour the subway system where we could do some public praising. Deciding that the trams would be too crowded with our musical instruments, we left them all on the bus. We missed the first bus stop we had planned to get off on and exited at the very next opportunity. This placed us directly beneath the former communist cultural center. There we burst into spontaneous worship. It didnt sound that good, but boy did the presence of God hit us hard. After a few songs we travelled into the underground shopping mall and came accross a group of teenagers who were playing musical instruments for money. They happened to be playing a guitar and violin! Which, miracle of miracles - they handed to us to play. We continued worshiping as Georgian and Jerry played - we were a rowdy bunch and caused quite a bit of attention. After blessing the street musicians with an 'offering' and listening to a few of their songs, we moved on to our next destination -- a tram (like a subway car).

We boarded tram number 7 and once aboard began our rowdy singing and clapping. Some of the passengers of the tram got a little upset and went to the tram driver to complain. Turned out the driver of the tram was a memeber of Pastor Zhorros church - he turned a deaf ear to the complaints and allowed us to continue on!
Sometimes when we came to the tram stops the people outside were too surprised to board. One girl though jumped on the tram and ran up to one of our mission group participants. They embraced and cried and laughed! Turned out this girl had come to Sofia from the middle of Bulgaria to visit her American friend. They were originally supposed to meet at the hotel. Which is where this girl was traveling to! But what a God appointment for her to join us on the tram!
It was just too cool.
Well there is a long line of us waiting to use the computer so I am going to have to cut this short. Thank you for reading and keep praying for us as today we travel to the poorest gypsy city in the country. We will be holding an open air service and tomorrow will be the feast of lamb stew! Thank you for your prayers! We are having a blast!
